How the reading is taken

The AI marks the lines
It finds the height of your shoulder, waist and hip lines, then separates you from the background so the width at each line is measured off your real outline rather than estimated.
Ratios name the shape
Shoulder-to-hip and waist-to-hip go against the proportion bands in ASTM D5585, the apparel sizing standard. You get the closest shape plus how strongly you match the other four.
What a body shape calculator does
A body shape calculator works out your body type from the proportional relationship between your shoulders, waist and hips. The traditional version asks you to take three tape-measure readings and type them in.
This one skips the tape. Upload a full-body photo and the AI locates the same three lines on your silhouette and measures the width at each. Two ratios come out of that, shoulder-to-hip and waist-to-hip, and those two numbers are what separate the five shapes under the ASTM D5585 anthropometric standard the clothing industry uses for sizing.
Knowing where you land is useful for the practical reasons: which cuts sit well on your frame, which alterations are worth paying for, and what waist-to-hip ratio means when you read about it elsewhere. It is a description of proportion, nothing more.

How accurate is the AI body shape calculator?
Around 80–88% of front-facing photos in fitted clothing are classified correctly. The proportion bands come from ASTM D5585, the anthropometric standard the clothing industry sizes to, with thresholds informed by published anthropometric research (Lee et al., 2007). Loose clothing and angled poses are the two things that move the result most.
What body shapes can the calculator detect?
Five: Hourglass, Pear / Triangle, Apple / Round, Rectangle / Straight and Inverted triangle. You get a percentage against all five, not just the winner, which matters because plenty of people sit between two bands.
How does the AI read my shape from a photo?
Two steps. First it works out where your shoulder, waist and hip lines sit on your body. Then it separates you from the background, so the width at each of those three lines is measured off your real outline rather than guessed. Those widths become the two ratios that ASTM D5585 defines the shape bands on.
Is my photo stored or shared?
No. Your photo is analyzed in memory and the result comes straight back in the same response. It is never written to a database or saved to disk, so there is nothing stored to delete later and nothing to hand to anyone else. The full detail is on the data privacy page.
What is the difference between body shape and body type?
Body shape is the silhouette your shoulder, waist and hip proportions make: the five shapes above. Body type, or somatotype, is the ectomorph / mesomorph / endomorph idea about how you carry muscle and fat. This calculator measures proportion, so it answers the first question and not the second.
Does clothing change the result?
Yes, more than anything else. The AI measures the outline it can see, so a loose top reads as a wider waist and pushes an hourglass toward rectangle or apple. Anything that follows your contour will give you a reading you can trust.
Does it work for men as well as women?
Yes. The two ratios it measures are proportional, so nothing in the method is gender-specific. Men land in rectangle, inverted triangle or apple more often; women more often in hourglass, pear or rectangle.
